Portage Soccer Club
U-7 / U-8 Player Academy

(Revised 07-Sept-2008)

Based on successes across the country (including nearby with the Michiana Echo), WMYSA is setting up a framework for participating clubs to initiate "Player Academy" training squads for U-7 and U-8 boys and girls. Portage Soccer Club is excited about this approach because it provides young players a fun way to develop their soccer skills without as much of the "pressure to win" that often creeps into the traditional game played by adults and older youth. The format of the Academy is professionally designed to provide more action for each player, and that translates to more fun and more learning.

Each Monday evening, players will participate in developmental activities for an hour and a half at the PSC Practice Facility supervised by a licensed PSC coach. There will also be at least one (but not more than two this fall) weekend of small-sided games with nearby clubs.

The small-sided approach gives each player more opportunities to touch the ball, and that's what accelerates development (and makes it more fun). And it's family-friendly in that the cost is affordable, the time committment is reasonable, and there's less driving to games. The fee for the fall 2008 and spring 2009 playing year is just $25.00 per child.

There are still two openings left and the deadline is September 19th or whenever the squad fills up. If you're interested (or have questions), call or email Mark Murry at 324-7947 (murrymark999@yahoo.com). Boys and girls born between August 1, 2000 and July 31, 2002 are eligible.
