In
March the Portage Lightning Premier U-13 boys team traveled to Cincinnati to play
in the Cincinnati Elite Spring Thaw tournament. The tournament brought together
16 highly ranked U-13 teams from across the Midwest. The Portage Soccer Club team
went 1-0-2 in the preliminary round defeating Westfield (#16 in Indiana) 1-0 and
showing strong defense in draws with Javanon (#1 in KY) 0-0 and Blast (OH) 0-0.
PSC made the finals where it faced Libertyville (#7 in IL). The game was evenly
played and ended 3-3 in regulation. It went to penalty kicks where Libertyville
prevailed. It was an excellent training opportunity for PSC in preparation for
State Cup and MSPSL league play this spring.
