Volunteerism doesn't stop at coaching… Paul and Charleen Knight were recently recognized as the 2011 Hope Award recipients by the Jericho Foundation Inc.  The Jericho Foundation, a nonprofit organization, assembles a team for their annual summer “Project Hope” trip to the Balkan country of Bosnia. They succeed in offering orphans, prosthetic patients and the many disheartened children a smiling face and words of encouragement. The Project HOPE team members serve, sleep, cry and laugh with their new friends as they build lifelong relationships. In the midst of this once-random group of individuals, a bond is formed uniting all in an understanding of God’s ability to “restore HOPE in Bosnia, one child at a time.” Charleen began this journey with the Jericho Foundation back in 2007. Paul, who is also a PSC Coach, now sits on its Board of Directors. Along with their daughter Sylvia, they have made several trips to Bosnia for Project Hope.  More information about Jericho can be found at www.jerichofoundation.org. Going Out in Style!

Congrats to the PSC 94 Green Girls for winning the GVSA U19 Elite division with a thrilling 2-1 last second victory over the Force on Sunday!! The girls finished their final Lightning season with a stellar 7-1 record. Coached by David Rice, the girls have had an impresive run since hitting the big fields in 2006. Since that time they have accumulated a record of 20-9-3, outscoring their openents 172 to 74.

Photo day is September 21st (Wed.) at the PORTAGE SOCCER PRACTICE FACILITY.

Congratulations to all of our teams who were busy playing in tournaments this summer to kick off the Fall 2011 Season

Portage Soccer Club was represented at the following tournaments:

2011 Powerade Invitational, Force FC Club Invitational, SoccerZone Fall Classic.

Our 99 Green boys were finalists in the U13 Gold Division, 98 Boys defeated the Michigan Revolution 98 for a 3-0-1 record making them the U14 Gold Division Champions, and the 94 Green Girls defeated LaForza HS for a 4-0-0 record to take home the Champion's trophy. The 96 Green Girls team traveled to Bloomfield to play up in the U17 Silver Division. They lost in the finals in a tough game endeding in PK's.

The Boys 99 White team is still looking for additional players. If you are an U13 player looking for a team, please contact either Coach Dan Lesko or Registrar Dana Pope to make arrangements for tryouts and paperwork.
