Portage Soccer Club
25-Sept-2007
Message from the President, David Rice
At the Annual General Meeting on September 19th I was elected President of the Portage Soccer Club. This term will be my second following a stint as President from 1997-2003. A big thank you to our past president, Pete Strazdas, for his time, talent and dedication to the PSC. Pete's leadership was key in maintaining the strength of our club, and he was instrumental in leasing land for the new Practice Facility on Cox's Drive.
Welcome to all of our returning players and parents as we begin a new season. A special welcome to our new players, families and coaches as you join our club. The PSC is the largest club in the West Michigan Youth Soccer Association with 260 plus players and 19 teams. The PSC is dedicated to the development of youth soccer players. Our Board, coaches and managers are all volunteers dedicated to providing the best soccer experience for your child. We can't do it alone. We need your thoughts, opinions and time. There is a place for everyone to volunteer from the tournament to the concession stand to fundraising to field maintenance. Find an activity that appeals to you and step up. You will never regret it!
For our newer families I would like to share with you a brief summary of my family's involvement with the PSC. Kathi and I have been part of PSC soccer since 1988. Our sons Sean (28), Tyler (26) and Andrew (22) all played for the PSC. I began coaching in the club in 1990 and this year am coaching the PSC U-14 and U-15 girls teams and the U-17 boys team.
Coaching must run in our family. Andrew is the coach of our U 13 and U-16 boys teams. I am proud that he and other young men and women coaches are volunteering in the PSC giving back to the club in a positive way.
Kathi is in her 19th year serving the Portage Soccer Classic Tournament in field operations. My duties as Tournament Director pale in comparison to her and the Tournament Committee's contributions. Our 22nd annual tournament will be the weekend of June 13-15, 2008. Please mark your calendars for this event; the high point of the year for our club.
In closing the PSC is your club. Please contact me or any Board member with your questions or comments. Don't be surprised if a parent representative randomly calls to solicit your opinions. You are also welcome to attend our Board meetings on the first Sunday evening of each month.
See you on the pitch!
David Rice
