Battle Creek Pennfield

The JV-B (freshman) team had a very successful beginning to their high school soccer career's with a 2-0 victory over a tough Battle Creek Pennfield JV squad. The Mustangs began quickly with the first goal scored at 5:00 by Kristy Greene with an assist by Candace Malz. The second goal was scored at 15:30 by Kelly Matyas with an assist from Kristy Greene. Hard work and hustle by the defense and excellent keeper play from Erica Santoni throughout the game combined for the shutout.


Kalamazoo Christian

The JV-B team played a hard fought game in their home opener against the Kalamazoo Christian JV squad. In very windy and warm conditions the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Both teams had numerous scoring chances but neither could find the back of the net. Keeper Erica Santoni once again posted a shutout for the Mustangs.


Paw Paw

In rainy, windy, and cold conditions, the JV-B team played hard against the Paw Paw JV squad. After a scoreless 1st half, the Mustangs started strong at the start of the 2nd half and Michelle Roose scored at 40:00 with an assist from Kelly Matyas. Megan Nemire then scored at 49:00 with an assist from Kristy Greene. Excellent work once again from the defense and goaltending by Erica Santoni provided the shutout.


Gull Lake

The Mustang JV-B team scored a 1-0 victory over a very competative Gull Lake JV-B squad in a closely contested match. The scoreless 1st half saw both teams apply pressure to the opposing keepers. The Mustangs started the 2nd half strong with Megan Nemire scoring at 42:00 with an assist by Kelly Matyas. The Mustang defense once again worked well together along with outstanding keeper play by Erica Santoni to secure the shutout.


Otsego

The PCHS JV-B women's team defeated a determined Otsego JV squad 4-0. The tightly contested match was a much more competitive match that the final score would indicate. Kelly Matyas scored the first goal with an assist from Megan Nemire at 17:30. The Mustangs added to the scoring at 27:00 minutes with a goal from Candace Malz after being fed an excellent pass from Kristy Greene. Megan Nemire scored two goals in the second half (38:30 and 50:10) with an assist on the first goal from Kelly Matyas to put the game out of reach. The shutout was once again posted by Erica Santoni with help from a hustling defense.


Kalamazoo Christian

The Portage Central JV-B squad's shutout string ended at 354 minutes last night at Kalamazoo Christian. Kalamazoo Christian's JV squad began quickly, scorring early at 4:00 and then again at 24:00 to take a 2-0 lead which is how the game ended. The Mustangs improved their play and pressured the Kalamazoo Christian squad repeatedly in the second half but could not find the back of the net.


Dowagiac

The Portage Central JV-B squad played hard and hustled the entire game but lost 6 - 0 to a quicker and more skilled Dowagiac JV squad.


Three Rivers JV

The JV-B squad got back on the winning track with a 3-0 victory against the Three Rivers JV squad in a very physical and foul plagued match. After a scoreless 1st half, Megan Nemire scored at 36:00 with an assist from Kelly Matyas. Kristy Greene followed up just 4 minutes later with an assist from Candace Malz. The Mustangs put the game out of reach with Kelly Matyas scoring at 55:00 with an excellent assist from Kristy Greene. A solid defense and nine saves by keeper Erica Santoni (including stopping a penalty kick) provided a shutout for the Mustangs.


Gull Lake JV-B

In a closely contested match. The Mustang JV-B squad fell to the Gull Lake JV-B squad 3-0. After a scoreless and rainy first half, Gull Lake broke open the game with a goal at 53:00 followed by two more to finish the game.


Dowagiac JV

The Mustang JV-B squad played well and supplied pressure to a well coached and very quick Dowagiac JV team but lost 2-0. The JV-B players played much better than their first game against Dowagiac this year as this turned out to be closely matched contest played at Dowagiac.


Battle Creek Pennfield JV

The Mustang JV-B (Freshman) team ended their season with a 2-1 victory over the JV squad from Battle Creek Pennfield. The Mustangs struck quickly with Kelly Matyas scoring at 3:00 with an assist from Melanie Demint. Battle Creek Pennfield tied the score just before the end of the first half. The Mustangs continued their excellent play into the second half. Megan Nemire scored the game winner at 40:00 with an assist from Kristi Greene. The Mustangs applied continuous pressure throughout the second half. The victory enabled the team to finish the season with an excellent 6-4-1 record. Congratulations to the entire JV-B team for an outstanding season and thanks to the varsity and JV-A coaching staffs for all their assistance throughout the year!
